What is Heaven?

A child asked me, “What is heaven?"

How could I answer such a question? I certainly do not know.

I guess it could be the gateway to eternal peace and happiness, as people say,

to those who impacted others in some way, or good deeds that they accomplished throughout their life without any sin,

where no suffering trails after those who left the living.

Either join the other beloved ones or leave some behind.

Or I guess it is a faraway vacation resort that is known for never returning the person who left without a word, a goodbye.

a place that deceives the living from finding the truth, an excuse for a child to believe until they come of age,

realizing and understanding what truly happened.

Or I guess it is the sky sending a message down to earth,

forming a heart-shaped cloud that slid into the reflection of a car window, driving through a highway,

a signal from the souls that were taken away, looking down upon us,

reminding us that they are still here, in our hearts.

Or I guess it is a portal through the real world,

transforming into the lives of the animals we keep dear,

a cat that sees something-or someone-we humans can’t,

notifying us of the mark of their visitor’s presence.

Or I guess it's a thought that strikes the mind like lightning,

making the people decide their path, their right way of living,

to either go to a place where they will rest peacefully, welcomed by little plants chittering around you, the sun giving you its warmth and comfort,

or be engulfed by the flames of misery that will never leave your side,

a punishment that will never allow you to break the chains that bind you to it, drowning you like quicksand.
